the dark side - week 14
as a member of the cbg, i have to admit that i am unhappy that the probable effect of some of the blog discussion centering on us has seemingly driven some of the fringe posters, lurkers just starting to open the closet door and the hit-and-run posters away from the site.
so in an attemp to pull together the blogosphering community at large once again, i bring to you some controversy and commentary that seems to "draw em out"
1. Hartners, granted it was on my unbucket list and never had seen my presense in 40 odd years...it was 'old cranberry' and its a bummer that it is being replaced by another pill box...not the kind with a machine gun in it (that might actually be uselful) but the kind called WALgreens, paralleling my much-malighned establishment know as WALmart.
2. school time in june...its one thing for the older students to have to suffer through the mess that the dumb-donkeys created in this school district but i really feel bad for the little dudes (that includes girls) having to rough it out for a whole additional month. Any teachers that shirk their duty during that month by using vacation time, pretend sicknesses, the famed "movie curriculum" should be fired (i know it won't happen but it should)
3. Zelie, Evans City, Callery, Harmony and the outlying wastelands should bear 100% of the tax burden of the svsd and we, cranberryites, should start our own schooldistrict. it has happened in other areas and it could happen here as well if there were enough people to support the movement OR we should invade enmasse...mars and establish our own colony. Cranberry has grown to be the behomoth of the district so we should get anything we want.
4. the precedent has already been set by zielymom (or something like that) they...the northerners have better youth sporting associations and coaches. they have been approached about merging with us cranberryites in the past but have arrogantly refused, so.......either take them by force or per number 3 above...leave em alone on their own island to bear the entire burden of their newly defined district.
5. the price of gas should "drive" a few improvements believe it or not....A. slowly but surely the destruction of the oil tanker, door dinger behemoths known as SUV's. B. another reason to quit making the godforsaken drive to svhs. C. every single one of us should buy motorcycles and start refering to cranberry as the cycle capital of the world...lots of gangs, fights, weeky inundation of the lube, everyone saying HI too eachother (like bikers do)instead of swearing at eachother, get to buy cool leather outfits with fringe, chaps, etc..
6. not only would it be cool to watch, i say westies should replace the 4th of july fireworks with a devestating explosion of the much-maligned turnpike tunnel on rochester road. have a new pre-fab'd bridge ready to drop in place and then have mass celebrations that the westies fixed the problem for the rest of the township. (as westies we could do it anyway with a few shovels and picks but it wouldn't be as cool as blowing things up)
7. contrary to some of the above references to easty vs westy, the real armies are those of the southies (us) and the northies (them) with the line of demarcation the Y on 19, the Y is ours the smoke-filled cancer center called freeway lanes remian in their control. the sides would be flip-flopped of course from the civil war with the southies controling all of the industry and technology needed to win such a conflict.
8. Finally.....those little traps that we used to set when we were kids with the box and the stick with the string on it should be used to capture all lemmings in the area and relocate them to the northern gulags. And also use them on saturdays to capture all the illegal immigrants to the township using up our space at restaurants, stores, roads, etc. Get em out.
oh yeah, the impressive zelie airport could cause a problem so it should be dealt with early on.
now.....come back all of you folks that need to rip, agree, expand upon, laugh, get pissed, etc. regarding this commentary from "the dark side"

are you okay???
~* chanel *~
I tend to agree with you on the blogs I like the chat but it's not the same as the blogs. I miss when everyone was ranting and raving about something. I know summer is a busy time for everyone.
Ok on Hartner's I did eat their twice in my life living here in Cranberry Township personally I didn't like the food. Hey remember the Cranberry Hall? I really liked that place had my rehearsal dinner their. That was sad when that came down. Ok I know not all of you remember it unless your a true Cranberian.
As for school in June the kids will get through it. I have faith in our teacher's always have and this will be no different.
Establish our own colony like Seven fields did sounds like a plan. Sorry Chanel. Zelie and everyone else thinks we are better then them now so why not. Not sure why they act as they do? Did Cranberry do something to them to make them talk about us?
M4S if you haven't heard yet the fireworks here in Cranberry are just not happening on that day they have been moved to June 14. Sorry to disappoint you.
As always I look forward to Monday's when you have something to say.
east/west restaurant? truely the Adam of the eastie/westie concept. it was the only "upscale" restaurant in c-town. my mom worked there for a bit since tips at the place where quite extravagant for a semi-rural area.
M4S, I think you're drawing that north-south line pretty far north if you're using the Y - there isn't that much Cranberry north of that point.
I think M4S picked a good point at the Y, Jackson Township starts a little bit north of Ehrman Road. If you move that line down to say North Boundary Rd. you chop off sizeable contributors to your tax base in Pinehurst, Oakview and Ehrman Farms--those are all still Cranberry plans. Remember the infamous comment that started the East vs. West thing? The blogger said something to the effect of, "take your hummer back to the northeast part of Cranberry". I'm sure those plans were what that person was referring to.
shot heard round the blogosphere was referring to a range rover...not a hummer. nonetheless your blog history is pretty good!
You are absolutely right although they referred to the vehicle as a Land Rover. I just went through the blogs and found the blog entry in question. It was posted in response to a blog entitled "Over Development In Cranberry", posted on January 27, 2008. The exact wording was:
"Everybody has different needs... If Ryan isn't good enough then you can take you Land Rover or Mercedes and move to northern Cranberry Twp on the east side of route 19."
BTW M4S, I loved your story awhile back about one of your boys trying to beg money from a stranger. It never ceases to amaze me the ways kids find to embarrass their parents. My kids are much older than yours and they still manage to surpise/embarrass me on a regular basis!!
and so true how they find a way to make us cringe...
~* chanel *~
I agree with the Zelie, Evans City, Callery, Harmony and that other town that starts with Connoq****** that nobody can pronounce or spell, comment.
I would only add that Seven Fields should be included in with that group.
That place has become a blight on this area. They're only there because they didn't like the growth of Cranberry, so I say we annex them and turn that entire area into "Cranberry's Game Room". No more building permits unless it's for 1) Strip clubs 2) Casinos 3) Race tracks 4) Indoor sports complexes 5)A stadium with a permanent "death match cage", with seating for 20,000 6)A restaurant that's serves fresh "all you can eat crabs" 7) 9 side-by-side KFC's.
These same towns should pay the guys from the TV show "Mega Movers" to move the SV campus to the site where the new mall is suppose to go. The chicks around here already have enough places to buy their clothes. We don't want or need any more shops or shoppes or boutiques. (Victoria's Secret is excluded from that ban)
Cranberry is the Roman Empire of W PA. We have to start expanding our empire by whatever force necessary.
Then Chanel is moving in with you. She won't have a place to live after your done with Seven Fields. By the way TL you have enough crabs we don't need anymore around here.
As always, you make me lmao even though your proposal would run me outta here. It would be nice if we had a Victoria Secret around here though.
~* chanel *~
love the commentary, especially the comparison with the roman empire. It IS time to expand geographically to spread out some of the urban sprawl beyond our current borders...the enclave of 7 fields was started by a whacko that wanted to build a "cult" of sorts...if anyone remembers that place used to have a six foot, solid walled wooden fence around it. very, very weird...the guy also had a big barn on the property where he had a bunch of supposed race horses (don't know if that was true but the horses were definitely there in a huge corral). the present look of seven traitors is nothing like it once was but its roots are in secceding (sp)from the empire and it is time it is claimed back OR sent packing to another district (MARS for example) so SVTAX (who lives there) can see his reduction in enrollment at sv really happen big time.
the mini-vegas would be a nice addition and bring some serious cash to the area. i like the idea. crabs.....a unique one, to balance all of the little chicken wings that every restaurant serves now.
If you're talking about separating relative to SVSD, then you have to include all of Cranberry, not draw a line through the township somewhere. If you were just talking Cranberry north versus south for arbitrary purposes, I'd say North is anything above Rochester, or maybe Rowan Road.
the northern wastelands of the district...the cranberry empire stays intact merely ridding itself of unneeded territories ond subjects. i drew the line at the Y because there is nothing north of that line that we need or want....the smoke-filled bowling alley and airport are the only things we currently don't have but that can be rectified in a matter of six months given the right construction contractor.
then.....easty versus westy would resume like it did in the roman empire because only the easties could afford planes and us westies could possibly be overrun by the westie hordes from beaver county (those folks struggle with english and have only a tooth or two amongst them)
I want 2 take some time 2 ponder your week 14 ... it has a lot of *good* observations & I do have some input.... we have missed you ... realize that this is a busy time for you, in particluar...
~Faith
PS Please do come 2 the blog party ... it just wouldn't be the same w/o you :=(
to that list!! Seven Fields succeeded from that Union for a good reason. We don't want any part of that. We're very happy the way we are. Seven Fields is a nice island on it's own. Hey, we just got some nice new signs!!
pending ...
when you can pry the steering wheel from my cold, dead hands.
seriously, isn't that thing putting a major dent in the monthly gas bill? i'm seriously thinking of getting rid of the wifes minivan and replacing it with several motorcycles with side cars.....the little dudes would love it and it would definitely be cheaper on gas (i think)
not really practical when it is three degrees out.
Soon the money we save in real estate and school taxes will be overtaken by the rise in gasoline............then we will all move back to the city and use public transportation, thus ending the "urban sprawl" and sending our home values in a downward spiral!
that is not a bad observation/prediction. the company i work for is german and i have been in europe many times...i was always struck by the extremely high cost of gas over there. your commentary makes a lot of sense when considering european travel...extensive rail systems with extremely high degrees of efficiency. perhaps this "crisis" with fuel prices will drive a rail network that the states have never been comfortable to use enmasse over the years. there really is nothing like 'urban sprawl' over there...the city, the small towns and the rural areas all joined by rail. there really isn't a suburban concept persay like here. you can reach everything you need to live via rail.
I'm going to ask you again, Are you OK???? oh and also, as a member of the CGB, your a$$ better be there! I'm not going to beg... :)
~* chanel *~
May I ask, & of course it is absolutely your prerogative not 2 answer, what your reluctance 2 attend this 'get together' might be?

Are you hitting the bottle once again.
Okay I plead fatigue to the Nth ... I immediately got it ... albeit 36 hours later, w/ 14 hours of sleep under my belt, bolstered by 2 cups of good coffee - yesterday & today in the A of M & I confess it is Star Bucks … a good friend bought it 4 me … it is a real treat … & I am rationing it 2 make it last, 4 now I again remember what *really good* coffee tastes like …….
~Faith
PS M4S … I gotta give it 2 U, I did indeed ask 4 what your reluctance might B & said I would (even) take it in code … so ‘loud’ have your silences on the blog seemed 2 me & others … & that is exactly what U delivered … so … U got me … LMAO … :=) ...
PPS CT & AM & Chanel (one ‘n’, not two – whenever I write this 2 U, I think automatically of the James Bond line, “shaken, not stirred…”) … Since U & AM & CT always have witty come backs 2 my posts, throwing in the occasional (tongue in cheek, yes?) question 2 me, asking if I am ‘hitting the bottle again’ … LOL … & me thinks, in this instance, my denseness is obvious, even 2 me … So here’s a preemptive response if & when U or CT query me wrt 2 “hitting the bottle (again)” :=) … NO, I am *not* hitting the bottle, or anything else – I just do *not* hit things, even good things, such as ‘hitting the jackpot’; but/& this does NOT mean 2 imply that I am a PACIFIST – which I want 2 pause & make perfectly clear, as this needed my clarification last time I replied 2 the query ... (If a reader is confused, go thru the blogs … do the work!! What does not 'kill', makes U stronger ... (What is in that Star Bucks coffee ... ah Vader - Star Wars - Star Bucks -- connection, hmmm? But the core is the core is the core … & they will remember this convo..)
PPPS This is a 3rd PS …. & again just a general preemptive PS 2 the CBG on my part 4, knowing that the inevitable Core Come Back (Note 2 the reader(s): x-ref – which is NOT code, it is shorthand 4 “cross-reference” :=) … so x-ref the CCB … which *is* CODE w/ the next PS … which would be #4 if anyone is counting or cares …. LOL) …. So here is the other preemptive ‘strike’ I promised -- This *is* the DEFINITION of the phrase a “come back' as I am using it in the phrase: Core Come Back…. DFN: Come Back (noun) - To retort; reply
PPPPS Okay this is the x-ref referred 2 in the PS#3 above …. Here is a new code word for the core’s growing cypher manual LOL: CCB = core come back ... & since I save PS’ing of >= 5 … 4 only a select few … I’m just going 2 keep on writing … when, (not if, as I know U all 2 well) … one of my fellow core bloggers does a CCB 2 me wrt 2 this post & its myriad PS’s …, I’m on my game & I will respond 2 U … It is Friday … all day long … :=)
~Faith
PS If U do not understand this post, get a dictionary & a pad of paper & a no. 2 pencil ... look up the word parse ... then reread the post :=)
What?????? SU and GN.
Right back at U ... LOL
~Faith
PS Happy Mother's Day !!
My dear-I actually understood all of that! LOL-starbucks is GREAT!
Great minds think a like!!
~Faith
PS Email me if U have any free spots this wkend ... i know it is mother's day & all ...
Are you serious????????????
~* chanel *~
i luv ya, but am freakin confused...don't mean to hurt ur feelings, but I am totally lost with this post.... :)
~* chanel *~
Obviously I tried reading this last evening. Ok, your post started out okay and 'understandable' , but as i read through it again, i was like what the 'f' are you talking about...I don't mean to be critical but, i honestly have no clue what point you were trying to make in this post....
~* chanel *~
You really need to cut down on the coffee girlfriend. OMG your hilarious I can't even understand some of the *hit your saying. Reading your blog is like you talking fast. I have no time for a dictionary!
Think of my posts as rubric cubes ... puzzles 2 be figured out ... if U don't want 2, that's okay 2 :=) ... we have dictionaries in nearly every room of the house ... when one of my kids (or their friends) says 2 me, "Don't use such big words!" ... I hand them the dictionary & tell them I'm not dumbing down 4 anyone ... it seems 2 be working ... they always come back ... sit at my table, reach 4 a cookie & want 2 talk … & inevitably ask if the dictionary is close by … LOL
~Faith
PS And let us not put the ‘blame’ on coffee, as it has nothing 2 do w/ this ... sorry :=)
Oh CT ... In NY ... I am considered a slow talker LOL
I am seceeding. You all piss me off! Stay off my land!
