Others contracts
Did I read somewhere that Hampton settled their contract?
http://www.htsd.k12.pa.us/NewsItem.aspx?ID=4512&Sch=District
Why can't Seneca Valley do that little negotiating thing...... and really, I don't want to hear the union is being unrealistic, the board's last best offer...none of it. Just go into a room, and hammer out the details so a contract can be reached.
We all know that 4% and or 6.5% isnt going to happen. So go in, work out a deal and get back to normalcy so the community can start to heal.
Oh, and happy easter.

how about any % as long as they don't walk out on their jobs (our children) again?!!
I don't think either side will be able to come to a resoultion now that it's in the hands of the arbitrator. I just wish we could go back to a normal routine. The not knowing for next year just kills me cause I like to plan ahead for trips.
Sorry Ghosts. No one is going to argue with you. Through osmosis, you and Karma have become "good" guys now. You two are now like the crazy uncles who have wacked out ideas, but you're part of the family, so we accept you anyway.
Have a nice Easter.
I hope something positive is coming soon on the school issue. It is not good for our kids, our teachers, the school board and especially for our SV communities. Lets hope for positive news soon
the only ones left for the "good" guys...
no I dont think any percentage...I just think that if a marathon negotiation is needed to take care of the issues and contract than why wouldnt both sides want it.
On the other side, changed my picture to the scariest rabbit I could find...has anyone seen the movie Donnie Darko? I should have found a picture of that rabbit.....it was just spooky
The rabbit you got is kinda freakin' me out. Looks like he's seen a ghost.
too bad "ctparent" not knowing about the future doesn't make you mad because there may be interruption in instruction for your child/children!!!!!
your last sentence sums up why we lag behind other countries. core values and priorities not in line with those who are more successful. your children and how they are affected should be your first statement of disappointment, not vacation
First, would you like to argue about your last comment directed at me and my response to you? (Regarding 6th grade LA at HMS) Didn't think so...you don't have a leg to stand on in that discussion.
Second, would you like to argue about who is really being selfish here? Yes, I thought you would. Let's talk about selfish. Arguing about a few thousand dollars here and there spread out over a period of X number of years. WHO CARES? Only the selfish union would care and tell their dues paying members to walk out on a community.
Have you checked out www.stopteacherstrikes.com lately to see what the teachers pay in dues and to see the salaries these union thugs are making? Not to mention all the perks. They are right up there with the scroungiest of politicians. Do you think the teachers should be paying for all of that? I DON'T.
I value the teachers. Just because I don't think they should get everything they are asking for does not mean I do not. I think that I speak for many of the "pro-board" community.
I can't do this any more...looking forward to hearing from you, though...Berry.
I am not upset at the teacher strike and my children mean the world to me. All I was saying is that I plan ahead and until this is finalized we can't do that. So it goes to say that I believe that my kids education does come first before a vacation. I understand about unions and what they are and how they operate. So maybe you just read to far into something I wrote. The vacation thing will be planned AROUND my kids education.
I think most of us understood what you were talking about. There have been many issues debated on these boards, but bottom line our lives are on hold until we know our kids schedules for next year. We don't even know a tentative calendar for next year much less if things will be disrupted by a teacher's strike. My daughter has told me that a lot of kids have taken extended time periods out of school for vacations of some sort. I think the older the kids get, the harder it is to do that. I guess if their education continues to get disrupted by these strikes we all might need to consider taking our families out of town when the time suits us.
that Berry is a defensive one, isn't he?
Berry, what don't you understand? The community does not like to be told (by the union) WHAT they can or can't do and WHEN they can or can't do it. (summer vacation time especially)
We DO VALUE our children's education but don't believe that MONEY is the answer to everything...or at least it shouldn't be now should it? We expect an uninterrupted education for our children. Is that too much to ask?
I cannot continue re-hashing, Berry. Let's me just say that you sound very defensive for some reason...what is your problem?
at a near by community to Brookville and read that Brookville Education Association and the Brookville school Board (yes that evil one that Tom King controls) settled a 9 year deal ranging from 2004 - 2013. I do not have details but when I get some electronic links I will post them.
Also, I good friend of mine that is part of the Hampton Education Association said they were able to settle the differences because once both sides came to the point where they could give no more on the issues they started to negotiate one issue against against another. I do nto have details because they are not released yet but I got the impression that it meant for higher pay than the board was offering the union gave them something in return (i.e. an extra work day for example). Nothing concrete here but you get the idea. We here in SV are stuck becuase we can not get to the point where Hampton was at. If both sides were all in then a "all nighter" would get this done. Also my friend did say that no one wanted to go through what happended here so both sides had some motivation.
