I have to say...that was the biggest load of fear mongering distorted BS I have ever seen. I could write a book about the idiocy of that sort of video, which does absolutely nothing in terms of having any benefit to society whatsoever.
I would also posit that anyone who buys into that sort of nonsense has no grasp of reality but is using someone elses ideas to justify their own thoughts.
Hey, it gave me a good laugh anyway. But really, that's the kind of propaganda that does harm to society. It tries to lead through fear and mis-information by making links between disparate ideas and outcomes.
I'll stop and welcome someone trying to justify the efficacy of a video like that.
Doesn't matter anyways my blog has had over 70 hits. This country is going to *ell and before long we are not going to be running it. Take it for what it's worth but I think the video says alot.
You really think we are not going to running it? I have to ask then...who?
Huh?
Ct said that before long we are not going to be running it...I just asked who?
Let's see how about over sees people coming into our Country and buying everything up. Example of this is Westinghouse,Kennywood and almost the turnpike which not sure is still a possiblility from what I heard it was dead then a news story contridicted that. Just wait and see like I said might not be now but in the near future.
What are you talking about??? Are you really that blind? You said "thats the kind of propaganda that does harm to society" Let me correct you. What does harm to society is exactly what this video is talking about. I watched the entire video and did not see anything that was false. People like you amaze me. You need to wake up.
Blind to what? What is this video "talking about?" Why do you think we have forgotten 9/11...because "people like me" choose to not live in a state of fear and paranoia? You want a police stae? No thanks. I am quite sure that this country is not on the edge of being controlled by islma-fascists and I will bet that in 20 or 50 years we will be doing just fine, and also that britain will not be under Sharia law as mentioned elsewhere in this blog.
The video is not false because it doesn't state facts...it is conjecture...so, you may agree with it, but that does not make it fact...your thinking needs to mature, and be able to filter when you are being fed propaganda through fear.
Just for you, MM, I am going to re-watch it and will comment more. I hope I don't pee my pants from being too frightened.
Being that I am a gay Latino muslim, you should really be afraid of me!
That actually turns me on.
OK, so I watched it again...it is really funny!
1) "Terrorists Have a Strategy." Do you not think we have faced far bigger threats and have ALWAYS found a way to defeat this. So, phooey on their "Strategy" which seems mostly to send out video-tapes. So far, not scared.
2) "Nation In Turmoil" first bullet point to prove this...NIXON RESIGNING! Laughable...I can hear the terrorists now "The nation is in turmoil, rememeber Nixon resigning 35 years ago? And, their auto industy is 2nd to Japan...we have them right where we want them now!!!"
3) Values...Porno is mentioned twice. My will to fight the terrorosts was strong until that, maybe we are giving in...WTF?
4) "Not Good At Fighting Guerilla Wars." I am meeting a friend of mine in 3 weeks who is a Lt. Colonel with two tours of Iraq under his belt, I will tell him some of you think this is true also...something tells me he has a different idea. I think the military has been exemplary in their will and dedication and total self-sacrifice.
5) A Muslim congressman had a picture with a Koran...umm...so. There is the other side of this whereby it shows the billion or so Muslims that this country embraces religious tolerance...I mean Hitler mentioned Jesus and God many times. Besides, given the antics of those in Congress, this seems a very minimal radar hit. There are plenty of reasons to through politicians under the bus, but generally they have to do something first. This guy might be more Patriotic than any of us...so unless we know for a fact, simply putting your hand on a book is a silly stretch.
6) "Birthright as a nation changed to Islam." Again...say what? Here is a crazy idea, that might be a stretch.
7) "From this to this." That is my favorite part. I do like the rickshaw type car though. Sorry, I think we are not quite there...what do you think?
So, there are some facts in there, but again, they are used to very tenous connections between things that do not relate. And, before you bash me and say you don't understand "people like me," make sure you understand my point...this video is not about being a patriot, this is about trying to scare you into thinking that anything less than subscription to fear is un-American. I am sure, MM, you may be tempted to say something silly about how I do not want to fight terrorism, but before you do, make sure you are actually going to dispute something I said, not something you think I think.
the only thing that was scary was the background music....
~* chanel *~
Maybe I was to hard on you but hear me out. You kind of picked out some silly photos (rickshaw cars) and then the line about Nixon blah blah blah. But the video has many excellent points that people should be paying attention to.
Lets look at it this way and tell me if you disagree.
"terrorist's have a strategy" You don't think they do? Some of their propaganda videos use messages word for word from some of our senators and congressman, Murtha, Harry Reid, Pelosi. They know we are a divided nation, Besides some Kamakazi pilots in WWII we haven't really faced any enemy that thinks they will be rewarded by blowing themselves up. And the video talks about how they blend in to the neighborhoods. Our problem is we fight to nice.
"Nation in Turmoil" Lets see, where do I start. The dollar is in the tank, foreclosures all time high, energy costs through the roof and climbing, enviromental nut jobs dictating what we can and can not do, cap and trade, off setting your carbon credits, about 5% of the people pay 95% of taxes, we don't manufacture anything (hardly) anymore, our people are in serious debt and worse than that our governement is in worst shape, we borrow money from china for everything, I could go on for hours about this but how about you give me one promising sign that things are going to get better.
"Values" hah what values, where is the work ethic we used to have? everyone wants something for nothing, I blame the goverment mostly for this. Decades of social programs filled with waste all on the taxpayers dime and getting worse everyday. Now everyone thinks and expects the governemt to take care of their every need. I don't like Mccain or Obama but I don't think it really matters which one gets elected. McCain if elected will just slow the bleeding a little but nothing will change for the better till this Nation hits rock bottom. The federal government is just like a crack addict, nothing will change until they hit rock bottom. If Obama gets in he will just accelarate the inevitable.
"not good at fighting Guerilla wars" As I said before we are to nice and actually care about civilians. There are over a billion muslims in the world and some say that 10% of them are extremists and want us dead.
The video doesn't scare me it just confirms what I have thought for years.
If Iran gets Nukes it's just a matter of time before one goes boom on our soil, may not even come from Iran, could come from another source but there are millions of people that would love to see that. We have to be perfect in protecting this nation but they only have to get lucky once.
Without being too lengthy let me say this. Yes, we as a nation have our problems, I just don't see the connection between the foreclosure rate, or the divorce rate, or porn shops and that as a conduit to terrorism. The video makes some HUGE leaps. When any video, etc., left or right does that, it loses all its credibility with me.
The reason Europe/Britain have the issues they do, in my opinion, is that the Muslum populations are largely lower class and marginalized. That is not the case in this country. Most of the foot soldiers of terror leaders are unemployed or underemployed...i.e. easy targets for recruitment. So, while a lethal military strategy must be at the forfront of our fight...and that means hunting and killing terrorists, we also must work toward a socio-economic platform with middle eastern countries to stem the inflow of these prime candidates.
The video really distorts the rise of the nazi party. It makes it sound like Germany was a prosperous happy nation begot by Hitler. Wrong. WWII started the day WWI ended, i.e. hyper inflation, unemployement, etc...perfect stew for a madman.
Anyway, this got off track. Still don't buy the leap between the issues stated and the connection to terror. I am still calling it BS. But, its Friday. And no need to aopogize to me...thanks though.
You had to be president of your debate team! Excellent views & posts, I could not have said it any better.
Thanks...but really I just like to debate. I still have an ongoing debate of almost 16 years about whether a baseball team on a winning streak is more likely to win its next game or lose it with a very good friend.
Since the video referenced the nazis...isn't that video similar to nazi propaganda films? World Order, Superior Race and Religion...that sort of thing?
Leni Riefenstahl was a bit more artistic in her depictions of the new world order.
TWO WORDS:
PARANOIA AND RACISM.
I am neither one of those watch and see what happens. I have been doing alot of research on this whole thing and it is scarey when you start reading and hearing things you don't want to believe is true.
Isn't that three words?
Sorry, couldn't help myself!
Twin Towers.

Are you wearing them now?
People forget about that they have gone back to their cushey lives.
Being that he is into all things french, and french like. I still recommend surrender. Yes?

While this video is simplistic, the basic premises are valid. People may view some of the connections as a stretch, but they can easily be supported. It's not like this type of piece is a one-sided tactic, you'd find this kind of "propaganda" produced by left-wing groups like moveon.org too.
People forget that we have an enemy that is bent on destroying us. They overlook the fact that our security efforts and focus are the reasons we haven't had another September 11th. Some people like to bury their heads in the sand, think we we'd never be attacked again.
CTP, you are right, people are going back to their cushy lives, living in denial. The only hardship we've experienced, which isn't even directly from the terrorist threat, is $4 per gallon (or higher) gasoline. Just look back at World War II if you want to see how this country had to adapt every day life and rally to defeat an enemy. What we've experienced to date has barely been a nuisance adjustment in comparison.
Unfortunately, the Islamic threat is really about religion. People want to point to our "way of life" as the reason that the Islamic terrorists target us, but most fundamentally, our support of Israel is the issue IMO. If the U.S. weren't backing Israel, The Islamic terrorists would wipe that country off the map.
The press and the government don't want to admit that our support for Israel is an issue, and our support for Israel isn't because we see the value of a democratic state in the middle east. It's because there's a large and influential jewish population in the U.S. that supports Israel unconditionally.
So don't cite our hedonistic lifestyle as the reason the Islamic terrorists are targeting us. Our involvement in the middle east through Israel is the short term issue. They may have gotten around to us eventually, just not so soon. Don't underestimate them.
And no, the above does not make me an antisemite. I'm all for people being able to freely practice a religion, as long as they don't try to impose their religion on me, or expect me to accommodate it in my personal life. Hopefully it just makes me a realist.
moveon.org is a propaganda machine also. I am an equal opportunity hater of all that is extreme. I didn't even like the band Extreme from the 80's...remember that panzy song "More Than Words?'' i rest my case.
Just recently a top UK judge ruled it was legal for Muslims to enforce Sharia Law in Britain. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1031611/Sharia-law-SHOULD-used-B...
That is just one step closer to enforcing Sharia Law on ALL Britains. But I am sure you don't think that will happen either. Just as you probably don't think we could have some liberal nut job judge here make the same ruling. Pull your head out.
Don't you find it interesting that so-called feminists have not talked about this? Honor killings, genital mutilation, not leaving the house without a male relative? Where is the outrage? It is nowhere in the Democratic Party.
Did you read the article? I don't think I am a fan of the judge in this case, especially due to women probably getting the shaft, but it is very narrow in scope as to how it can be applied. A far cry from enforcing it on all Britains. What he said was that if the parties agree, disputes amoung Muslims can be settled by Sharia law.
Come on people, stop being so afraid. If you have ever been diposed by a couple of attorneys nibbling at your jugular, you will know fear.
Do you really think Britain is heading toward Sharia Law? You have to be too smart to buy into this. "The sky is falling!" Laughable.
I read the article. Notice the judge is the "top judge" in Britain. You say it is very narrow in scope, only to settle disputes among muslims who agree to it. What? What is wrong with the law of the land to settle disputes? The forest you missed through the trees is the fact that this judge has now pandered to a certain group, allowing them to bypass the law of the land and basically rewrite the nations laws to suit them. Do you realize what he has opened their government up to? Their law has been established for how long? Now this judge has basically said it isn't necessarily applicable to a certain group, to go ahead and change it to suit them. And do you honestly believe that the muslim women will have the option to not agree to it? You can guarantee the edicts coming from the religious leaders during their friday "prayers" will enforce it. Imagine what they will face if they don't. Whether or not Britain is heading towards Sharia Law is atleast more of a possibility now than it ever was. Do you honestly not see how this one step can lead to much more drastic consequences? What happens if several muslims get elected in their government, taken along with this ruling... To put it into perspective, this would be akin to our supreme court judges ruling that our constitution can be bypassed for settling disputes amongst muslims. Would that alarm you? That is basically what has happened in Britain.
You do realize that in this country many disputes are handled outside of the court system right? And during these processes many established laws are thrown out the window, such as rules of evidence, powers of attorneys, etc.
Yes, I do think these women, as I stated first in my comments, are going to get shafted. But, the idea of handling certain disputes outside of the legal system is hardly a new on...it goes on here all the time.
For instance, construction contracting largely provides for binding arbitration to settle disputes. Labor grievances are often handled via CBA's through binding arbitration. I don't get the leap of saying "this country is going to be governed by binding arbitration because those darn contractors have it!"
You're comparing business and contract negotiations to sharia law? These processes you mention were set up by whom? Our government. The recent school district contract was settled ultimately out of court (NBA, etc.) but they had rules and processes established by our government to follow. Whether or not disputes are settled outside of the court system isn't the issue. The issue is whether our laws still govern them, which they do. There is still a set of laws set by our government (department of labor, etc) under which these disputes and settlements must ultimately follow. Labor disputes are still subject to the Department of Labor. Financial contracts will still be subject to our laws(why would you need attorneys to dissect all the intricacies of our system if not). And what justice system do you think these disputes you mention are based on? Where do they go if they can't be resolved outside the court system? Do they bypass our justice system? We are talking human rights here, not a business arrangement. Yes I am aware many disputes are settled outside of the court system, but ultimately they still must follow the law of the land.
The US Govt allows for groups, like labor/management, to develope rules and procedures for settling disputes, some of which are in direct contradiction to established public laws. The reason is, the Govt acknowledges and recognizes that it is in the best interest of the parties to hammer out their own issues that are unique in scope to their industry.
As I have stated several times now, I don't like the idea of Sharia Law because women will prbably see their rights diminsh massively. But, I just cannot get to a place where I think Britain will one day be ruled by Sharia law...I just think it is a stretch.
However, the spirit of these types of decisions is not unprecedented.
That's my point and we will continue to disagree, so respectfully, have a great weekend.
Any law based on a philosophy that requires women to wear MORE clothing cannot be a good one.

I so agree with you on all of your points above. You put into words everything I was thinking as I was watching the video. The most laughable was the "rickshaw car" (as you put it)...couldn't take anything seriously after that :)
Conjecture indeed.
BTW, Hot - did you make your donation? They take Visa/MC!!
It's 'Hottie', not 'Hot', ok?

Got it...just didn't want to use YOUR nickname for him :)

You'll do anyone, anywhere, huh?...I can't even laugh right now....ttyl...xo

First of all, I agree that the video was done to get a rise out of people. A lot of meaningless facts with some element of truth. The bottom line is, is there a threat from Islam? The only real facts we can use is history. One of Mohammed's first orders(fatwa?) was to capture Constantinople(already a Christian city for centuries). It took the Muslim's 500 years to complete the order. They finally blew the walls down and slaughtered the inhabitants. This led to their incusion into the Balkans. The killing hasn't stopped there for 500 more years. The Ottoman Turks(Muslims) then moved west beheading the infidels. Cyprus, Malta and Greece(didn't regain their independence until 1821) fell. Finally they formed a huge armada to land in Italy! If it wasn't for a Christian coalition that defeated the Turks at the Battle of Lepanto all Italians including me would be Islamic. Christians in Spain were relegated to second class citizens or worse for the centuries they were under Islamic rule until thrown back to North Africa just before Columbus discovered America.
I know I'll hear from someone that the Christian religion has also had their atrocities. You would be right. However, today I don't hear of any Christian suicide bombers or Christian only states and governments. I also don't see any mass demonstrations by Muslims against terrorism in the name of Allah.
Just look at the countries today that have a majority of people who are Islamic. Do they tolerate any other religion? On what laws are their governments based? Even Turkey who professes to be secular, almost all their Christian minority have left.
Are we right to be in Iraq or Afghanistan? Only the historians from future generations will know for sure. If the past is any indicator of the future then we are in for a long long struggle.

You have to love those old movies I think that the ones today are nothing like they use to be. I could watch re-runs of these movies. They are such classics now those are real actors unlike the crap today we have to see. I really enjoy the old shirley temple movies have always liked those.
