What's Upsetting My Flock Lately

The Shepard's picture

are a few things.

#1: Women who are driving these battleship-sized SUVs who are struggling with putting their gas hog in its parking slip. It's D,R,D,R, then D again, then R, then finally D before their carrier is docked. Meanwhile, they've taking me off my schedule. Try a mid-size.

#2: The renovation/tile work at DQ. If it goes another week, I might finish the tile work myself. This must be the longest rehab job ever in construction. Lay the tile, wipe the counters and be done with it. The Eastside just opened the grandest of all DQs...The DQ Grill N Chill. Very nice.

#3: How small of a wing is the Lube going to offer next? Each year, this establishment is serving a smaller and smaller wing. Where are these small chickens? Back in the day, the Lube fried up a good 'ol sized wing.

#4: School delays. They just don't make sense. If it is zero at 7:30 and too cold to send Jimmie to school, why can Jimmie go at 9:30 when it a balmy 7? Wrap the scarf tighter, button down the hood, lace the sneaks and get'em going.

#1 If you can't park the vehicle, buy something smaller. We've reached a point where my kids are saying it before I am. Seriously people, they make vehicles that hold a lot of people that are easy to manuever and park.

#2 Have you ever ordered a meal at DQ? Slow doesn't begin to describe it. When we are in a hurry, that's the last place we would go, so it's no surprise to me that the renovations are taking longer than it would anywhere else.

#3 Haven't been to to the Lube in a long time, and you've given me no reason to go back now.

#4 I think the 2 hour delays must have more to do with getting the buses to the bus stops on time than the temperature change.

Something like, "If you are in the 10th Mountain Division in Iraq, the Hummer is a tool. If you take a Hummer to the grocery store, you are a tool."

to the grocery store...you are a loser with low self-esteem that thinks your chosen mode of transportation is impressive.

the shep's flock is in a frenzy...and i like it...a lot

1. the little chickies (sometimes not so little) that drive these big SUV's have some kind of syndrome...maybe they want to project the image that bigger really is better?

2. DQ...it is seriously ridiculous. the shep with some of his new fangled farming tools and myslef would make this happen in short order. my theory is they are waiting for immigration reform of some sort to see how cheap they can get the labor for. In this case there is no argument that the eastside wins a battle akin to the victory on hoth.

3. i don't eat the wings at the lube because of unplucked feathers that this meateater can't get past but I did hear that they are starting to use the famed ruffed-grouse on occasion to fill production voids due to e-coli outbreaks in what are probably the most digusting places on earth to work at.

4. school delays...read my post to the earlier string.

shep you have turned the corner my freind and are moving closer to my side of things. remember, you do not know the POWER of the dark side.

With the price of gas these days, I just don't get the big SUV thing.

We only go to DQ if we have A LOT of time. You can wait 20 minutes with only two people in front of you in the drive thru.

Haven't been to the lube in a long time--too many burnt hamburgs. My older kids like to go on wing night--I guess small wings don't phase teenagers.

One more gripe--Why did WalMart put in so many check out lines when they only open like three at a time? If you go to self check out it's exasperating. When you get stuck behind someone that has never scanned before it takes forever. When you do get to scan it's not as user friendly as Giant Eagle's self scan.

myfoursons's picture

about walmart. those million registers have got to be getting rather dusty by now. i will add another walmart comment...I HATE WALMART...the parking lot is a nightmare, you need to wrap your car in bubble wrap if you don't want a door ding (just figure for it if you are parked next to one of these babydolls driving the SUV's from hell) the aisles are narrow and always filled with a bunch of stuff in the middle. the place is LAME.
just my opinion folks.

The self check out at home depot seems overly sensitive. Seems like if you don't scan correctly and move immediately to the "bagging" area, it gets locled up, then, without even coming over the clerk hits a magic button and all is well. Not that I need the clerk to come over, but I get the feeling it happens so often they know 99% of the time it is a machine error and not someone lifting a light bulb, so they just brush it off.

DQ is excruciatingly slow even inside.

Burger King...ever go to the drive-thru and order a few things with drinks and they never want to give drink holders. Unless one of them wants to get in the car with me or I want to jump in the backseat and start looking for the holders, I have nowhere to put them.

Walmart Parking Lot...you can get in but you can't get out.

Ever try to turn into the Muni Building parking lot as church is getting out? All the good Catholic's that have just heard the word of God missed the part about letting your neighbor make a left hand turn...maybe they are rushing to get in line at DQ.

myfoursons's picture

conscious. I am one of those catholics you mock but i will still give you the low down about getting out of church. i always leave the parking lot using the back access road to the municipal buildings parking lot since you cannot make a left out of the church parking lot (there is a permanent, cranberry sign to that effect) BUT you can make a left out of the MB'g lot. do what any real drive does...stick our car out there making it clearly obvious that you are coming, if you get hit oh well but its not going to happen.

I must confess I am an eastsider who got "kicked out" of your church and moved to St Killian's. . .a very volatile topic that we shouldn't open up!!
My teenager son asked me why when driving north on 19 and turning onto Rochester Road did they create two turning lanes only to have the merging bottleneck in about 50 feet. I am assuming the plan is to widen the rest of Rochester Road, but thought the boy made a good point.
Also, I hate WalMart. I hate the traffic getting to the Cranberry Giant Eagle as well. We need a new grocery store away from the congestion. I don't care for the Seven Fields Giant Eagle--they have even less customer Service than the Cranberry one.

After 16 years of Catholic Education I have earned my right to mock! I remember all too well watching attendance in church drop dramatically after communion!

I go to DC every few weeks for work, so sticking the nose of the car into traffic has become second nature.

with the Shepard on most of these. Although I drive an Envoy now, I must say I do kind of like the H3. Good thing my lease isn't up yet, I was headed to Wright Hummer. Now don't make fun, I am a good driver and can parallel park with the best of 'em.

The Lube is awful. I've only eaten there a few times and have vowed to never go back. The wings at the Elks Lodge are so much better.

DQ...haven't been there since fall. The construction is still going on? They need to watch "Flip that" or "Trading Spaces" and then they can have the 14 year olds that work there finish the job.

Walmart is awful. I was in there Sunday and couldn't wait to get out. The only time I will go now is in the morning when no one else is out yet. I was one of the lucky ones that got their vehicle smashed because of the parking lot situation. I was even luckier because the lady that hit me didn't have insurance.

Last, the Burger King drink holder thing. When you ask for one they look at you like you are speaking another language.

Ahh, I feel better now. Thanks Shepard :)
